What Can We Do If the Groom’s Family Isn’t Contributing to the Wedding Budget?
Money stands up straight and tall on our list of awkward conversations to have with anyone, ever. Let alone, during wedding planning. The wedding budget talk can be something that causes the first burst of stress and chaos in your journey down the aisle. The best thing you can do, as a couple, is have the conversation early on with your families, separately. The tradition of the bride’s family covering the tab for the entire wedding is something that’s going out of style — more and more couples are paying for the wedding themselves or both families are splitting paying for the affair equally. But if after you have that conversation with your family members and find out that only the bride’s family is going to contribute to the wedding, it may be time to take a step back and reevaluate the scale and the scope of your nuptials. Once you know how much the bride’s family can contribute, see how much you as a couple can add to your wedding budget. Once you have the budget set, you can then go back to the groom’s family and see if they wouldn’t mind paying for certain items, vendors, or extra

Between kissing your fiance (correction: husband) all night and drinking alllll the champagne, your dream day also happens to be a lipstick nightmare. One newly engaged, lipstick-loving writer put the latest shades through a rigorous fiance-kissing, champagne-sipping test to bring you the ones that truly last. Mwah. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick In the name of avoiding a lipstick smudge, my fiance spent years opting for an awkward cheek-to-cheek air kiss over a full-on lip-lock at public events (fair enough, FI). So he almost didn’t believe me when I said that this one left no trace. But it’s true, which is especially impressive—and crucial—considering I went for one of the darkest shades: Chianti. The *Nashville* Wedding Dress: All the Details on Rayna James’ Custom Wedding Gown
A wedding dress fit for a country queen: After four seasons, Nashville’s Rayna James and Deacon Claybourne finally said “I do”—and Rayna’s one-of-a-kind wedding dress was worth the wait. “I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to design a dress for Connie [Britton], because I love that girl,” Nashville’s costume designer Susie DeSanto told People. “Like her character, the dress is simple, honest, not too fussy, elegant and sophisticated.” The “beautiful bisque” dress features a bodice made from a single piece of lace over a figure-skimming sheath-shaped skirt of crepe, silk-backed satin topped with a silk netting overlay with hand-sewn lace flower appliques. “Connie was involved in the process— we have a great relationship so it was fun for us. I showed her the sketches, and we had several fittings,” Susan told People. “This wedding dress has a truth to it. It’s what you wear when you marry your true love.” For more, watch this:
Shia LaBeouf’s Girlfriend Spotted With a Ring on THAT Finger, and the Engagement Rumors Fly
Shia LaBeouf finally put a ring on longtime girlfriend Mia Goth’s finger, and sources confirm with Us Weekly that they are engaged! The first source overheard the couple earlier this month while they were grocery shopping at Gelson’s tell the cashier they were set to get married. Not to mention, the onlooker also spotted a massive diamond on her engagement finger. Last month, Shia also called Mia his fiancee during a live-streamed performance art project \#Elevate. The duo met back in 2012 on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol. II and first sparked some engagement rumors last month when Mia appeared at the Miu Miu show in Paris with a certain sparkly ring. While neither of them commented on their relationship at the time, it’s looking like our sneaking suspicion this time is correct. Congrats to the happy couple!
Why Are Bridesmaid Dresses Matching? Come Find Out the Historical Explanation
When it comes to planning your wedding, you aren’t obligated in any way to put your bridesmaids in matching dresses (or to even have a bridal party, honestly). Mix-and-match dresses, whether in different hues or silhouettes, are pretty darn normal these days, but the old standard is still a line of loving pals, waiting to assist you on your special day and wearing identical frocks. As with everything, there’s gotta be a reason for the uniform, right? Back in the olden days, bridesmaids went beyond just matching each other, dressing the same as the bride too in order to create an army of decoys should bad spirits be attracted to the outpouring of love and goodwill (evidently that’s a thing?). The Romans—credited with creating the original bridal party—were also savvy about the issues of the flesh. Just in case the blushing bride had scorned would-be suitors on the way to finding Mr. Right, the ‘maids were on hand to confuse any that came to seek revenge. Kind of dramatic, but also just a little bit sweet, right? It’s nice to think your friends would do something so major for you. Should you be struggling to decide who you’re asking
The Crazy Ways Mothers-in-Law Ruined These 3 Weddings
Unfortunately, we all know someone with a monster-in-law—and even more dismaying, sometimes that person is us. But these horror stories are so shocking they are sure to make you feel better about your own mother-in-law, whose antics surely can’t compete with this craziness. “My mother-in-law pushed all my buttons—then bawled at my wedding.” When it comes to recalling the shenanigans her mother-in-law whipped out before and during her wedding, Kristen begins, “where do I start?” Her soon-to-be family member had a way of pushing each and every one of her buttons, she reports, including calling when her then-fianc wasn’t home to toss out insults—only to deny the bitter diatribes when he returned. Then the wedding day came. “My mother-in-law spent the majority of our wedding crying in a separate room about her ex-husband, who was also at the wedding,” Kristen describes. “She was crying that she still loved him!” Talk about awkward. Luckily, Kristen says, her mother-in-law couldn’t truly spoil the day, despite her best efforts. “She in no way ruined my wedding—I wouldn’t give her that credit—but she made the two years up to the wedding hell for me and my husband,” she says. Here Come the Boys: Gwen Stefani’s Sons Help Her Bride Friend Down the Aisle
Gwen Stefani’s sons lent some rocker cred to her friend Zelva’s wedding over the weekend. All three boys—nine-year-old Kingston, seven-year-old Zuma, and two-year-old Apollo—joined their mama for the nuptials, which Gwen documented on Snapchat. All three boys—whose dad is Gwen’s ex, Gavin Rossdale—looked handsome in black suits: Apollo played wedding date (no word on Blake Shelton’s whereabouts), while Kingston acted as ring bearer and Zuma helped carry Zelva’s train down the aisle to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” Have a look: A video posted by Gwen Stefani Snapchats (@gwensnapchats) on Mar 19, 2016 at 6:16pm PDT A video posted by Gwen Stefani Snapchats (@gwensnapchats) on Mar 19, 2016 at 6:24pm PDT A video posted by Gwen Stefani Snapchats (@gwensnapchats) on Mar 19, 2016 at 6:30pm PDT Want more weddings? Honeyfund Review: “We Used Our Wedding Registry to Help Fund a Yearlong Honeymoon”
Forget about fine china or a sterling-silver ice bucket. When bride Jess and groom Nate thought about what they’d ask for on a wedding registry, nothing came to mind. As in, they wanted nothing. “Don’t get me wrong,” wrote Jess on their shared site, Round the World Couple. “I would have loved to run through a big department store with that tagger gun beeping all the things that looked good.” But the two were in the process of selling, donating, or giving away all their stuff to embark on a yearlong—as you may have guessed—’round the world adventure, so registering for new sheets and hand towels didn’t quite fit with that vision. So instead they set up a Honeyfund registry, and asked their guests to gift them experiences that they could enjoy throughout the year. Some options from their registry: Spanish lessons a trek in Macchu Pichu a sunrise hike in Darjeeling, India a train journey across southern Africa When it comes down to it, of course, they were basically registering for cash: If grandma spent $200 to buy them dinner somewhere exotic, they wouldn’t get a restaurant credit, they’d get money in their Honeyfund account, and it would be
Wedding Planner, Wedding Ideas: How to Learn to Love Wedding Planning
Despite what you may have been told, “not every girl grew up dreaming of her wedding or dressing up as a bride for Halloween,” says Kelly Heyn, owner of SociaLife Event Planning in New Jersey. Some women just don’t dig wedding planning—whether they’re not innately organized, don’t have the time to dedicate to the task, or simply can’t stand planning a fete for which they’ll be the center of attention—and they can dread every step toward their big day. But even the most reluctant brides can learn to love wedding planning with a few tweaks to their tasks. “The first step to enjoying it is to admit it is hard and work on a realistic game plan based on you and your partners strengths,” says Viva Max Kaley, a New York wedding planner and the creator of Viva Max Weddings. Here’s how you can do just that. 1\. Know yourself and plan accordingly. The strengths and weaknesses you exhibit at work are the same you’ll show in wedding planning, says Kaley—and the key is to know how to use them to your advantage. “Approach your planning being honest about what you are good at and where you need to ask
Proposal Ideas, Proposal Stories: Kenna and Conner’s Unbelievable Proposal Video
Hi, ladies. Kim here. We’re thrilled to welcome back Stacy Tasman to share another one of the amazing proposal stories from her site, How He Asked. If you missed the first one, check it out: There’s a dog, and you will get chills. And don’t miss the second—which started with the prettiest tulle skirt—here. The How He Asked story below is told by Kenna, who’s now a bride-to-be. How we met Conner and I met in high school, my junior year and his senior year, in chemistry class. I knew who he was because he was the basketball star, but I didn’t think he knew who I was because I was just another girl on the soccer team. But he did know who I was! I was too scared to talk to him, and my chemistry teacher must’ve known that because she sat us next to each other three times in a row. I was very grateful. I remember tweeting something about Conner a couple of days later and he favorited it (so yes, I made the first move;). I think that’s what got us talking! A couple days later we had a take-home test in chemistry, and Conner direct-messaged

Bride Tries (and Fails) to Sue Say Yes to the Dress for Ruining Her Wedding
She said “yes” to the dress—and she doesn’t want the world to see it ahead of her wedding: 26-year-old Alexandra Godino, who’s set to say “I do” to pro hockey player Jeff May in front of 300 guests on May 14, said she agreed to appear on Say Yes to the Dress on the condition that the show air after her wedding date. And then she found out her episode was slated to air tomorrow night. Yikes. “I hired a lawyer because, how many times have they done this to brides? This is a show about weddings, how they’re completely unsympathetic is mind blowing,” Alexandra told the New York Post. Alexandra, who was approached at Kleinfeld by a producer when another bride bailed, told the New York Post that she hadn’t wanted to appear on the show at all, but “mom puppy-dog-eyed me into doing it.” Manhattan Judge Nancy Bannon was not sympathetic. From the Post: She “ruled that while she understands the tradition of a bride not being seen in her gown, Godino signed away her rights in a contract. Things could be worse than being on a television show with a beautiful dress on,’ Judge Bannon said.” Want
4 Rules for Having Makeup Sex
The best part of arguing, some might say, is what comes after: makeup sex so good it could heal all wounds. “Makeup sex is a way to maintain your intimacy and bond together despite the disagreement,” Jane Greer, Ph.D., sex and relationship expert and author of What About Me? Stop Selfishness From Ruining Your Relationship. But before you jump into bed after a bickering match, our experts say, there are a few rules you must follow. 1\. Never have makeup sex out of spite. You can’t carry your anger into the bedroom, our experts warn. “It can backfire,” explains Kat Van Kirk, certified sex therapist and author of The Married Sex Solution: A Realistic Guide to Saving Your Sex Life. Instead, she suggests, “learn to channel your anger and frustration into passion. It’s all just energy. Makeup sex can be healing—if you allow it to be. Allow your vulnerability to shine through.” And while you can’t go to bed still bickering, Greer believes makeup sex can be more passionate than your normal between-the-sheets action. “It’s okay if this sex is a little more intense or aggressive, or not necessarily your usual style,” she says. “Both parties are coming at it

Lady Gaga, Taylor Kinney Married: Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney Wear Matching Rings
Lady Gaga had something to smile about over the weekend. Maybe it was the handsome guy on her arm. Maybe it was her star-studded 30th birthday party. Or maybe it had something to do with the matching gold bands she and Taylor Kinney were wearing? Faster than you can say “Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis” the secret-wedding rumors started flying when Gaga and Taylor stepped out with huge smiles and noticeably shinier ring fingers last night. Have a look: Click here for a picture of Lady Gaga’s massive engagement ring. And let’s go in for a closer look at both: This feels especially note-worthy to us because Gaga never takes off her engagement ring. One reason we’re not quite sure though: Taylor’s band is on his right hand—not the hand where Americans typically wear their wedding rings. Lady Gaga and 13 More Celebrities Who’ve Been Bridesmaids In the past, Gaga promised that her big day be very un-Gaga-like—no meat wardrobe pieces, no one hatching from eggs. Instead, it will be more of a “family style” wedding: “We are not planning anything that is worth writing about.” “I think if I wouldn’t let my mom do this with all of us
Relationship Problems: I Hate That My Boyfriend Proposed Before I Was Ready
Writes Glamour.com reader Sasha: I am in my early 20s. I’ve been dating the same guy for nine years and I do plan to marry him, but I was not ready for a proposal, which he knew. Three months before my birthday I was really depressed about my career and my life in general, and I flat-out told him not to propose because I wasn’t ready yet. I told him many times. So I was shocked when, in the middle of the night one night, he gathered some friends and family members and proposed. I said yes, because I love him. But I feel like he was totally dismissive of the proposal that I wanted—and the fact that I didn’t want a proposal at all right now. I had told him in the past that when we got engaged I wanted both of our families there. When the proposal that I got went down, three of my siblings weren’t able to be there, and his family was sleeping. (He told me they’d be too tired for a middle-of-the-night proposal—So why did he propose in the middle of the night? I feel like everything on my calendar is fast-tracked now. I’m

Marriage: Honoring Different Religions in a Wedding Ceremony. Christian, Jewish, Hindu
If you’re in a Catholic confessional every Wednesday evening while your partner gets his Shabbat on each Friday night, you may be wondering what the heck you’re going to do on one other very important day of the week—your wedding day. But the good news is that many couples host interdenominational ceremonies flawlessly—and we’ve got the expert advice to help you do the same. 1\. Get your family on board. Chances are that your family feels as strongly about your religion as you do. So by introducing another set of beliefs—some of which may directly contradict your own—into your ceremony, you risk offending them, warns Aviva Samuels, owner of Kiss the Planner in Palm Beach, Fla. “It’s not always possible to do what you think is best and have other people agree with you,” she commiserates. “Exercising compassion, common sense, and tender loving care is all you can do. Hopefully it is received as well as it is intended.” To ensure you get the right message across to your loved ones and to avoid any surprise disappointments on your wedding day, New York City’s Tinsel & Twine co-owner Erica Taylor says it’s smart to sit down and talk out your
Charleston, South Carolina, Weddings, Restaurants: Places to See, Shop, Stay, and Eat
With a population hovering around 130,000, the Holy City {That’s Charleston, South Carolina, for you Yanks } might not be a big city—but weddings are big business there: More than $150 million is spent on weddings in Charleston every year. The city saw an average of 107 weddings a week in 2014, and not all those brides and grooms were local. Around a quarter of U.S. couples are hosting destination weddings, and South Carolina is the No. 5 state for destination brides and grooms. If you find yourself in Charleston (whether you’re a wedding guest, part of a bachelorette party, or the one saying “I do”) here’s what we loved when we swung through for Charleston Fashion Week’s Spring Bridal Show. A Unique Claire Pettibone Wedding Gown
Despite the fact that Sylvia Santhilakshmi Charles grew up in the United States, she felt a pull to honor her Indian heritage on her wedding day. And she and her now-husband Aaron Ellis Royston did so in epic fashion—and fashion, if you catch our drift. The couple invited their guests for a December wedding weekend at the Kumarakom Lake Resort, where they tied the knot on a boat—and Sylvia stunned in a blue and embroidered Claire Pettibone gown that will make you swoon. Sylvia’s parents recently relocated to India, where the bride often traveled as a young girl. “I have incredibly fond memories of going to India every summer to my mother’s village in South India,” she says. “It’s like going back in time.” For their three-day wedding, it wasn’t possible for the couple to host their 150 American guests—and another 100 Indian attendees—in such a rural locale. “So I searched for a location that could luxuriously host our guests, but still feel like the rural and magical South Indian village that my mother grew up in,” says Sylvia, who ultimately fell for the Kumarakom Lake Resort in Kerala. “My husband is white and Jewish, but an incredibly adventurous
Lauren Conrad on the Best Wedding Favor She Ever Received and Why Cash Bars Are a Don?t
Lauren Conrad has a lot to celebrate these days. She’s helms one of the most successful lifestyle brands, she’s the mom to two adorable rescue dogs, and she just published her ninth book, a party-planning guide titled, coincidentally, Celebrate. So, when we caught up with LC earlier this week at a Pinterest event honoring her latest title, we naturally had to discuss one of the biggest celebrations anyone can host: a wedding. And for Conrad, a self-described Pinterest fanatic, there’s nothing she loves more than taking party planning into her own hands— reason, of course. Conrad with a Pinterest meet-up guest, showing how floral arranging is done “Do DIY—figure out where your strengths lie and go there,” Conrad told Glamour. “But don’t do it all, because it’s very difficult.” Following her own advice, Conrad used L.A. florist Gilly Flowers & Events for her bridal bouquet but did some of her own floral arrangements for her wedding reception. She even revealed that, on the morning of, she and husband William Tell ran out to the local farmer’s market to pick fresh flowers for the big day. Unsurprisingly, this hands-on approach has carried over to party planning among Conrad’s closest pals—one of
Jennifer Lopez Has Been Proposed to How Many Times? (It’s More Than You Think!)
Someone put a ring on it. And another ring on it—and then a few more rings. Jennifer Lopez guessed during Carpool Karaoke with James Corden earlier this week that she’d been proposed to five times, but just now on Access Hollywood, she upped the number to six proposals. We know J.Lo was married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, then engaged to Ben Affleck, and married to Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2011\. She dated Diddy between her first and second marriages, and has been on-again-off-again (currently on) with former backup dancer Casper Smart since late 2011\. So were the other proposals from Diddy? Casper Smart? Both of them? Or someone from the block? Jenny’s not saying. Hey, if we met her in person, we might get down on one knee too.
Horrifying Wedding Toasts You’ll Have to Read to Believe
We’ve all heard a wedding toast or two that made us cringe—and gave us a healthy fear of handing over the microphone at our own weddings. But whatever you’ve witnessed in the past, prepare yourself for something even worse: Seven wedding toasts so horrifying you won’t want to believe they’re real. They have no idea what they’re walking into. 1\. Some toasts you never forget—no matter how much you’d like to. Take this grossly sexist speech Franklin heard more than 15 years ago and can still remember word for word: “The father on the groom said, ‘A wife is like a good tile floor,'” Franklin recalls. “‘If you lay it correctly, you can walk all over it for years.'” Yuck. 2\. Even best men make wedding toast blunders. And, according to Sue, the best man at her brother-in-law’s wedding made a big one. “The best man raised his glass and instead of saying the bride and groom’s first names, he said the groom and the groom’s ex-girlfriend’s names,” she recalls. “There was a moment of stunned silence, and I am not sure the best man was ever fully exonerated for the faux pas.” 3\. Nerves can get the best of
Caitlin and Eamonn’s Nike Sneaker Proposal
How We Met Eamonn and I met over four years ago when I was a patient at his office. We started off as friends grabbing coffee every once in a while, catching an occasional dinner or movie. I found myself turning to him when things in my life were hard, and he was always there to listen and bring me comfort. Two years ago it became clear that there was more to us than just good friends and we started dating. The friendship and comfort Eamonn brought me in the early years of our relationship provided me with the security and understanding that he would always be there for me and do everything in his power to make my happy and comfortable. There is never a dull moment when we are together and my life is better when he is by my side. How He Asked I am a schoolteacher, and as a back to school gift Eamonn always buys me a new pair of Nike sneakers. His oldest sister is a fashionista and always keeps us hip on the coolest sneaker trends. I love this because the kids in my classroom find my sneaker “game” impressive. This holiday
Jeweler Behind Blac Chyna’s 7-Carat Ring Confirms Engagement, Shares an Up-Close Pic
If you didn’t believe Amber Rose, believe it now: Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are engaged, the jeweler who designed Chyna’s engagement ring just confirmed. Ben Baller of Ifandco just shared this Insta vid: A video posted by Superism (@benballer) on Apr 5, 2016 at 7:50am PDT The video is captioned: “Congrats to @RobKardashian & @BlacChyna on getting engaged. Rob, I have never seen you this happy before and I’ve known you since you were a teenager. I’m glad you came to your day 1 homie to get this massive [ring] for your lady. You know I don’t play when it comes to diamonds. God bless \#7Carats \#VVS \#IFANDCO \#BlacChyna \#RobKardashian” Obviously it’s a super-sparkly round diamond in a four-prong setting with what appear to be French-set oval or round diamonds on the band. (A french setting is especially sparkly because it has less metal, so more of the diamond is exposed.) Want more reality TV weddings? Watch the ladies of Vanderpump Rules play “Tom or Katie.”
Bachelorette, Bachelorette Party: What Friends Think About Destination Bachelorettes
What’s not to love about a destination bachelorette bash? From a culinary crusade through Napa Valley to a wild ride in Las Vegas, a weekend getaway with your favorite gal pals sounds like your idea of serious fun. But get a few honest friends together and you may find there’s a lot they do and unfortunately don’t adore when it comes to traveling for this particular party. Here, five women get real about what they really think about destination bachelorette parties. Surprise! They don’t like the additional expense. Think about it: Several of the people on your bachelorette party guest list are likely also bridesmaids—women who are already dishing out serious dough for a bridesmaid dress and your bridal party. “It’s a lot to ask of me to pay to be a part of your wedding and to go away for your party,” says Christine, who’s been invited on three bachelorette getaways this year alone and can only attend one. “If it comes down to paying for that $300 dress you want me to wear or buying a plane ticket, I know where my money has to go.” They love the chance to see somewhere new. One benefit to hosting

Beyonce Is Suing Merchandise Brand “Feyonce”
Life lesson \#1: Don’t mess with Beyoncé. Queen Bey just filed a lawsuit against a Texas clothing company for putting the word “Feyonce” on its products. She reportedly asked the company to stop its sales, and feyonceshop.com didn’t listen. First off, are there really people out there who wouldn’t listen to the Queen? Not listening to royalty is a crime in itself, so Beyoncé, get what’s yours. Much of feyonceshop.com’s merchandise, like this shirt, uses the same sans serif font that Beyoncé favors (see here), so it makes sense that Bey is worried about people thinking she’s associated with the company. (The brand also, ahem, borrowed heavily from “Single Ladies” with their “He put a ring on it” mugs.) OK, too close for comfort. To make matters worse, Beyoncé claims the company is in the process of trying to trademark “Feyonce” with both an accent on the “e” and without. Yikes.
How to Deal With Next-Level Family Drama at Your Wedding
Even if you feel like your family’s, for the most part, normal, there’s nothing like a wedding to make family drama bubble to the surface. And if your family includes, say, half a dozen siblings and parents with several divorces under their belts—Hey, newly engaged Rob Kardashian—you might be tempted to take a pass on the drama and just elope. But if you’d rather have big party than a trip to city hall, you can make it happen with some careful juggling. Here’s how Rob and Blac Chyna—and every couple who’s up against serious family drama—can pull off a traditional wedding. Jeweler Behind Blac Chyna’s 7-Carat Ring Confirms Engagement, Shares an Up-Close Pic Your Families Disapprove YOUR WEDDING: Your sister’s never liked your groom, or his mom wishes he were marrying someone Jewish. ROB & BLAC CHYNA’S WEDDING: While Blac Chyna’s friends and family are excited (both her mom and BFF have congratulated the couple on social media) Rob’s family (all of his sisters as well as Kris and Caitlyn) has been noticeably silent. HOW TO DEAL: It’s great if everyone’s as excited as you are, but it’s never a guarantee. If your friends or family are lukewarm about your
