Mumbai, 18 December 2013: Bollywood stars, movie lovers and film enthusiasts walked down the red carpet as British Airways launched the much awaited film extravaganza, ‘Silent Picturehouse’ to celebrate 100 glorious years of Indian cinema. The three day event, which promised its guests to travel the world from their seats, was hosted at Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai from 16th of December to 18th of December. The event witnessed presence of some of the most prominent names in the film fraternity, including Karan Johar, hosting the gala night! Amongst other luminaries, sizzling Bollywood celebrities, Arjun Rampal, Malaika Arora Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Mandira Bedi, Chitrangda Singh and Minissha Lamba graced the occasion with their presence.

The screenings showcased Bollywood blockbuster films on three different screens, playing simultaneously in a space to recreate the in-flight entertainment experience with the traditional cinema viewing environment. The audience tuned in to pre-selected jury movies of their choice using wireless headphones and enjoyed the screenings. Movies screened at the event included Dharma Productions’ super hits such as, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, handpicked by Karan Johar himself.
In addition, the event witnessed an exquisite showcase of Queenie Dhody’s jewellery collection inspired by eternal beauties from different Bollywood eras.
The ceremony culminated with a gala event on Wednesday, 18th of December, which was attended by crème de la crème of Mumbai’s high society including numerous Bollywood celebrities.
The evening later saw the celebrations literally taken to the skies with the highest tea party in Mumbai with a smashing ‘Silent Disco’ after-party at AER Lounge at Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai. Guests were treated to a selection of unique speciality teas from the Twinings’ Signature Tea Cocktails with an innovative new blend of the nation’s favourite drink, specifically designed for British Airways.
The ‘Silent Picturehouse’ is a unique cinematic experience; an original concept by the British Airways launched globally in 2010 to mark the airline’s partnership with British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Facebook page launched to ‘bring home Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade’
39-year-old, Indian diplomat and mother of a young girl, Dr Devyani Khobragade was strip and cavity searched by US Marshals – as admitted by the US State Department and reported by both the US and Indian media, and confined to a cell with drugs addicts and prostitutes.
If this is the courtesy extended to an Indian diplomat (young lady officer representing her country and government) for a technical crime, imagine what would happen to you and me or for that matter Shah Rukh Khan, in the US of A – the land of the free (once upon a time). Though she was released on a bail bond of USD 2,50,000, her diplomatic passport has been impounded and she cannot leave the United States. Was she made an example of for somebody’s political ambitions as reported in the Indian media? Or was there a tinge of racial discrimination in the whole episode?

The awards for the 4th Peloponnesian International Film Festival “Bridges” were presented at the crowded Cineplex Lais of Corinth in Greece. The ceremony was conducted by Corinthian actress Helen Petropoulou along with festival director Petra Terzi. The audiovisual presentation ceremony was prepared by Socrates Lambropoulos. The choreographer of the closing ceremony is Glykofrydi and the dancers were Aggistrioti Maria, Andrea Kapasakalidi and Helen Stamatopoulou.
Amidst much applause and in the presence of the Honorable Ambassador of India in Greece Tsewang Topden and the First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Greece Somnath Halder it was India’s THE COFFIN MAKER that stole the glory at this year’s festival winning 5 awards decided by the eminent jury consisting of Bollywood Producer Vivek Singhania, Greek actor and director George Pirpasopoulos, the director of the Corinthian theater George Tzavaras, the German director Oliver Kyr and the Greek Director of Photography Olympia Mytilineou.
Noted Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah won the Best Leading Actor award for his performance in The Coffin Maker which also won Best Production Design for Bharat Vijan, Best Original Score for Bapi – Tutul, Best Director for Veena Bakshi and THE GOLDEN PEGASUS for BEST FILM
Praveen Morchhale’s BAREFOOT TO GOA was the other Indian film in competition and also won for Praveen a SPECIAL MENTION FROM THE JURY for his sensitive direction of the little child artistes

Through the realization of this year’s Peloponnesian International Film Festival “Bridges” from 7 to 15 December, in cinema LAIS in Corinth , the Seventh Art emerged as an intellectual cultural and inspirational event, with the projection of 70 films from 20 countries in total and along with various cultural events attractive even for the most discerning viewer.
The festival director Petra Terzi warmly congratulated, all actors and directors who participated and competed with their films at the festival, renewing the appointment with all cinephile public in December 2014 !

Shekhar Suman To Mark His Directorial Debut With Romantic Medical Thriller Heartless
The multi-faceted Shekhar Suman is gearing up for the release of his
directorial debut Heartless however, unlike other directors, who often
choose formula films to foray into Bollywood, Shekhar has chosen a path
less travelled.
Heartless is a romatic medical thriller, which deals with a frightening
medical phenomenon called anaesthesia awareness. When asked to shed some
light on the movie and the phenomenon around which it revolves, Shekhar
stated, ³It¹s a hard-core romantic thriller with a medical background. My
film¹s plot revolves around a phenomenon called anaesthesia awareness and
not many people are aware of it.
It’s a very interesting but frightening phenomenon and one out of a 1000
or may be 10,000 patients experience it. When they are anaesthetised,
because of the anaesthesia effect they become unconscious from the
outside, but remain conscious from within, which means you start hearing
sounds in the Operation Theatre and start experiencing the pain. You shout
for help, but no one can hear you. A lot of people I have spoken with have
admitted to the fact that at one time or the other, they have experienced
it, and they only realised it was anaesthesia awareness when I told them
about it, he further added.
When quizzed why he picked up such a different topic for his directorial
debut, the filmmaker said, I chose this topic because I¹m a doctor’s son
so, it was very natural for me to bring forth a topic which is related to
the medical field. Also these days all the films are very similar to each
other in terms of treatment, narration, the way the songs are shot and
fight sequences. In such a situation, it becomes very important for a
filmmaker, if he wants to create an identity for himself, to pick up such
a topic which the audiences have never seen or experienced before and
anaesthesia awareness is a phenomenon not many people are aware of. It’s a very horrifying situation to be in and I hope no one experiences it.
The much-anticipated movie will feature Shekhar’s son Adhyayan Suman as
the protagonist and he will share scree space with stalwarts like Shekhar,
Om Puri, Deepti Naval and Madan Jain in it. Heartless, which is slated to
release on February 7, next year, will mark the acting debut of Ariana
Ayam.

India’s SOMDEV DEVVARMAN to battle it out in main draw of Aircel Chennai Open 2014
The 28-year-old has dramatically broken into the top 100 list and has had an impressive run at tournaments across the world in 2013
CHENNAI, DECEMBER 18, 2013: Even as Estonia’s Jurgen Zopp has pulled out from the Aircel Chennai Open 2014 with a back injury, India’s Somdev Devvarman has entered the singles draw for the upcoming 19th edition of the tournament, scheduled to take place from 30th December 2013 to 5th January 2014 at Chennai’s SDAT Tennis Stadium. The World No. 90 will be spearheading India’s representation at the US $450,000 tournament.
Cutting off at 89, the strong player field for the region’s most exciting and hard fought tennis tournament will see an inspiring array of players and include thrilling talent such as World No. 8 Stanislas Wawrinka, World No. 15 Mikhail Youzhny, World No. 16 Fabio Fognini, and Defending Singles Champion Janko Tipsarevic. The 2014 edition marks only the second time in the history of the tournament where three returning singles champions form part of the playing field.
This year, 28-year-old Devvarman dramatically broke into the top 100 list had an impressive run at tournaments. In the space of 10 months, he climbed more than 550 spots to a No. 90 Emirates ATP Ranking. He recorded main draw wins at his first six tour-level events of 2013, highlighted by a third-round run at the Sony Open Tennis, and followed with success on the ATP Challenger Tour circuit, reaching the semi-finals at four events. He also advanced to the second round of Roland Garros and the US Open and the third round of the Citi Open – all as a qualifier – to re-enter the Top 100 by September.
Noteworthy that Somdev also was nominated for Comeback Player of the Year for the ATP.

Asia business sentiment falls in Q4 – Thomson Reuters/INSEAD survey

Business sentiment among Asia’s top companies dropped sharply in the fourth quarter, extending last quarter’s declines, with global economic uncertainty and rising costs weighing on the region’s firms, a Thomson Reuters/INSEAD survey showed. The Thomson Reuters/INSEAD Asia Business Sentiment Index fell to 62 in the fourth quarter from 66 in the third quarter of 2013, the lowest reading since the third quarter of 2012. A reading above 50 indicates an overall positive outlook.
Sentiment in Southeast Asia’s $1.5 trillion economy was undermined by political turbulence in Thailand and a typhoon in the Philippines, causing dismal readings of 40 and 58 respectively, which were the lowest for both countries since the poll was first compiled in 2009. Although China and India’s bullish scores of 75 and 82 respectively supported the index, export-driven north Asian economies such as South Korea as well as regional trading hub Singapore also showed weaker readings, underscoring still-anaemic global business conditions.
“The global economic recovery is still very fragile,” Zhang Shiyuan, an economist at Shanghai-based Southwest Securities Co said. “There is a fundamental problem that there’s still too much debt. It’s a time bomb that may be detonated if monetary and fiscal policies don’t coordinate well.”
The survey showed that the auto sector was the most negative with a reading of 33, a sharp drop from 63 in the previous quarter, followed by the food and resources sectors with fourth-quarter scores of 50. The index surveyed more than 100 of the Asia-Pacific region’s top companies including Hyundai Heavy Industries, Fast Retailing and International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) in 11 economies, across sectors including property, financials and tech. The poll, conducted by ThomsonReuters in association with INSEAD, a global management and business school, was compiled between Dec. 2-13. Of the 128 companies that responded, two-thirds reported a neutral outlook while less than 30 percent were positive in their prospects.
